About

On May 25 2016 my husband and I got the devastating news that our sweet Honeybear has osteosaracoma in her right front arm.  The news crushed us especially since we lost our first fur baby (Chogan) to this vicious disease July 2015.  He was 11 1/2 and we decided to not do treatment with him. We love him just as much as Honeybear but we made the best decision we could with the information we had at the time.

The day we found out about Honeybear we were a hot mess!  We took her to a speciality clinic 2 1/2 hours from where we live for her limping as X-rays showed only arthritis.  The specialist took her own X-rays and determined it was the “C” word.  The ride home was quiet.  The doctor told us as far as she could see it hadn’t spread to her lungs yet but we didn’t even talk treatment options thinking we would just do the same thing we did with Chogan.

That night of course we couldn’t sleep so what did we do??  Google anything and everything about canine osteosaracoma.  We kept reading stories and watching videos of people going ahead with the treatment. I was amazed to find out how quickly dogs adapt to the amputation and even chemo!  Our minds were made up and put at peace when we decided, let’s to treatment!!!!  The call was made to the specialist in the morning along with just a few questions……..ok like a million questions!  The radiologist confirmed they didn’t see anything in the lungs and her surgery was scheduled!

Honeybear became a tripawd on June 6 2016.  With chemo and possibly physical therapy to follow I (2 days post op) already feel like we made the right decision.  Every dog will be different and I still don’t know what her future holds but at least now we know she has a chance!
